Mobile Alzheimer's

5636900, 3261888-2466, 2513449, 2513151, 9846172692, 2427971, etc are a few numbers I recollect these days.. Once upon a time I was proud I could by rote say at least a 100 telephone numbers.

With the advent of the mobile, this is one area where I think I have caught Alzheimer's. It is like what the convenience stores does to our life. It makes it so simple and so specific that when your put in a raw environment, you suddenly realize you dont know anything.

Just imagine, if today you were ever shipwrecked, what would be your feelings? The modern world, well if you ask any American, he will surely miss his McDonalds, Walmarts, High Speed DSL and his car.

You ask a Indian Software engineer this question and it will be like, Orkut, Yourtube, mobile, Digital camera and probably some coding :). Food ofcourse is still a priority but for many today, it is the isolation and independence that life gives to a person through these various media that makes their life so cool. India is still a land where you see the majority of people still living with their parents and having a social structure of relatives who meet at every other relative's wedding functions. These online media and independent gadgets make the life of each Software Engineer so private yet socialized atleast with remote Etiquette.

But like I said above, put two software engineers in a room of people and suddenly they go into total silence not knowing what to do further, how to interact with others in society and a lot of fidgety looks unless of course the topic is related to computer science.

The days the Internet access breaks due to a leave or even lack of connection at home, I feel myself to get panicky about the lack of connectivity and it is as if my world revolves around it. Socializing in person is a thing of the past. I am so lazy to even go out and meet the people in person but through orkut or through mail its a offline independent our own time to get in touch. When this happens, I know it becomes difficult to interact personally and sometimes we tend to treat people for granted.....

Remembering the way things once were I realize why the modern kids know lesser and lesser of mathematics and more and more of computer games....
